How to use it
- Pick a starting colour, such as one already in your logo.
- Choose a harmony. Analogous is calm, complementary has contrast, triadic is lively, monochromatic is restrained.
- Lock the colours you like and press Generate to change the rest.
- Check the preview, then copy the values or download the palette.
Good to know
- Saved palettes stay in this browser only. Clearing your browser data removes them.
- Screens show colour differently. Check print colours with your printer before ordering.
- Test text colours with the Colour Contrast Checker before using them for body copy.
Questions
How many colours should a brand have?
Most small businesses work well with one main colour, one accent and two or three neutrals for text and backgrounds. Five is a practical maximum for everyday use.
What do HEX, RGB and HSL mean?
They are three ways of writing the same screen colour. HEX is used in most design apps and websites, RGB lists the red, green and blue values, and HSL describes hue, saturation and lightness, which is easier to adjust by hand.
